Enganda Zabanyakigyezi – Updated

Please click on the above link and refresh your memory re: your clan, your clan totem and your clan’s friend. Banyakigyezi  youth who were born abroad may find this very helpful as they get into the years of dating and marriage.

It is not just taboo to marry a person from your clan, it may also have negative genetic consequences for your offspring. Consanguinity (where a couple are biologically related) increases the risk of offspring inheriting bad and sometimes disorder-inducing genes.  When in doubt, ask.

This work was done by Omugurusi Festo Karwemera, the greatest researcher and preserver of our history and traditions.

Strange that you, a Musigyi, would be the great-grandson of Nyakairima ka Muzoora through your paternal lineage. Nyakairima ka Muzoora was a Muzigaaba. How did you end up being a Musigyi?

  5. Apparently there is a misspelling of the Omudyango wa ba Muntu which has continously been spelled as ba Muhutu. this has created confusuion over the many years many tending to imply the ethnic Abahutu of Rwanda. I talked this over with Omugurusi Festo Karwemera and had promised to make corrections. Omugurusi acknowledged that there are also other typos that have gone unnoticed because people dont read his books and take long to pinpoint these small errors. In the end they are taken ‘gospel’ which leads to either bias reading or literal interpretation. So please, there is nothing like Omudyango ba Muhutu. Again it is Omudyango wa ba Muntu ,not ba Muhutu.

You may be right, of course, but we are going to need several sources to support your report. Aha Muhutu is so entrenched in our collective knowledge, not just from Omugurusi Karwemera’s excellent book. So please take this up and let us see what we learn. I appreciate your bringing this to our attention. Thank you very much.

I would strongly recommend that you buy Omugurusi Karwemera’s book: Emicwe n’Emigyenzo y’Abakiga Eyongyeirwemu. It has information about the origins of the various clans and so much more.
      Kind regards.
